ICT & Business Studies

It is an exciting time for the ICT department, we are launching an innovative curriculum, embracing the new national programme of study from September 2015, which will see students involved in designing and authoring software, using a variety of programming languages, as well as using ICT to communicate effectively in the ever evolving world of ICT. We will also be exploring e-commerce, cementing our strong links with the Business department. To celebrate this new chapter we will now be known as ICT and Business Studies Department.

Computer technologies and e-learning, such as our Virtual Learning Environment(VLE) are becoming increasingly utilised across all departments at BCHS to enhance teaching and learning and we in the ICT and Business Studies Department actively encourage students to become more independent learners through accessing resources and support materials placed on the VLE.

The ICT and Business Studies team have high expectations of both staff and learners and we aim to deliver a varied, interesting and engaging programme of study which will give learners the opportunity to experience the diverse aspects of the subject area.

We have redesigned the Key Stage 3 curriculum to take these changes into account and will be increasing the volume of computer science and multimedia authoring students will be accessing, along with promoting the practical aspect of computer hardware.

At BCHS we provide Computing as part of our core provision at both KS3 and KS4, additionally students may opt for more specialised courses depending upon individuals strengths and interests when they move in Yr 10. Key Stage 5 students are offered three specific routes:
