Summer School 2015

New Year 7 students from BCHS got their first taste of school life off to a flying start by attending a two week Summer School held at BCHS from the 10 – 21 August 2015.

21 new Year 7 students attended the summer school over the two weeks which included a visit to Newcastle United’s St James Park, Metro Radio Station and the BBC Newcastle Studios. The theme over the two weeks was all about reporting the news and the students got the opportunity to put news reports together on what they had been doing on a day to day basis and then produce a news program all about the Summer School and what they did.

Other opportunities available to the students were classroom based activities on how to get the news, how to put a news report together and the importance of getting the facts right on any news story. This was also a good way to link the theme in with Maths, English and IT/Media.

The students were also involved in a community project at the Chester Court Care Home and also worked with Kim Green from the Parent Support Service. At the end of the two week summer school, the parents of the students who attended where invited to a celebration brunch where the students were given certificates and also got to look at the news program the students put together all about what they got up to during the Summer School.

The news report is shown below.
